The Old Brookfield Tavern was built around three centuries ago, and has survived to this day thanks to a collector of antiques and Americana, George F. Ives (1864-1923).  Originally located near Four Corners in Brookfield, CT, the structure is a early Colonial American "salt box" style of post and beam construction.  By 1918 it was neglected and in great need of restoration, although the Tap room was still in perfect condition.  George F. Ives purchased the tavern and carefully moved it piece by piece to Danbury.  The second floor ballroom with its coved plaster ceiling remained intact. In the Ladies Parlor and the Tap Room Parlor there is wood paneling and the original built in cabinets. Ives filled the inn and the ballroom upstairs with his collection of rare early American furniture and Americana. We are grateful that in the period of early American Colonial Revival George F. Ives found and restored the Old Brookfield Tavern.
